The Wade Weston Scholarship Fund was established following the death of Wade Weston in 2008. Mr. Weston was a recognized member of the first responder community and Rush Memorial Hospital. He was a paramedic and was close to completing his nursing degree at the time of his death. The Wade Weston Scholarship is awarded annually to a Rush Memorial Hospital employee who demonstrates similar characteristics to Mr. Weston, is committed to quality healthcare here in the community, and is pursing education to become a nurse or paramedic.
For many years, volunteers have gathered each year around the holidays to remember Wade and raise funds for the Wade Weston Scholarship Fund through the Lights of Love event. We love this event and enjoy the time to celebrate together. Because of the generosity of donors and the community, the Wade Weston Scholarship Fund is a permanent Fund of the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation, meaning that Wade’s legacy will continue. Because of this, the Lights of Love event this year will look a little different. We will still celebrate as a Rush Memorial Hospital staff and family but this will no longer be a public event.
Thank you for your continued generosity to the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation. Because of you, the Wade Weston Scholarship Fund will continue its original intent to give scholarships to deserving Rush Memorial Hospital employees for years to come.
